Takaku Aigai (1796-1843) Nanga Soft coloured landscapeSigned: Sorin Gaishi Chô Seals: Takaku Chôin, Sorin Gaishi Technique: sumi and some colour on paper 132,3 x 57,8 Date: forth month of 1842 Mounting: light blue damask black wooden rollers, 194 x 70,4 Condition: left top corner restored and lightly soiled, otherwise good Aigai (Sorin Gaishi) was born in Shimotsuke, Eastern Japan. He went to Edo in 1816 to study with Tani Bunchô (1763-1840). He studied old Chinese paintings and travelled extensively in Northern Japan where he sold his sketches to keep him moving around.
