Köjin was born in Kyoto. He studied with Nishiyama Suishô (1879-1958). In 1924 he moved to Tokyo, but went back to Kyoto after he had failed to enter the Teiten in 1927. He won a prize at the 12th Teiten in 1931. The next year he married his fellow artist Akino Fuku (1908-2001).
