Masao was born Itami, Hyogo Prefecture. In 1936 he left Nihon University College to serve the army in South China. Was wounded in Vietnam, went to hospital in Taiwan. Hospitalised in Osaka 2 days before the war was ended. Went back to University and graduated in 1947 after which he became a teacher. In 1954 he won his first prize at Nitten and kept winning every year from 1960 until 1991.
In 1961 he joined the Watercolor Federation in which exhibition he won in 1964. In 2005- he was awarded "Community Person of Cultural Merit" and in 2008- "The pecial elderly award of Hyogo Prefecture".
