Kôjô was the 38th generation abbot of the Kiyoshi Kôjin Seichô-ji and founder of the Tomioka Tessai Museum in Takarazuka in Hyôgô Province. Since 1918 Kôjô had assembled a huge collection of the work of Tomioka Tessai (1836-1924) and during the 1960s he organized many important international exhibitions of Tessai’s work.
